No, the Auto Starter can maintain a full charge for up to 5 years. Many other types of batteries, such as nickel cadmium, lithium ion, or lead acid batteries need to be maintained over long periods of time, and in most cases discharged and recharged periodically to keep from power deterioration. The alkaline batteries contained in the Auto Starter are designed to hold their charge for years. So, you can literally put it in your trunk or glove box and forget about it until you need it.

Yes, Power It, Inc. has gone to extreme measures to insure the safety of our products. The Auto Starter is made with alkaline-based technology. Alkaline batteries are considered to be the safest batteries on the market today. In addition to the safety of the internal cells Power It, Inc. has an overload/thermal protection circuit installed in every Auto Starter. This device regulates the discharge and recharge of the cells to prevent any failure due to over loading or over charging. The outer casing of the Auto Starter is made of flame retardant, high impact, plastic. The factory, to deter the leakage of alkaline fluid in the event of damage, seals this case. Alkaline fluid is not known to be harmful or fatal. It is a skin and eye irritant that is not known to cause permanent or lasting effects. If contact with skin or eyes, flush with cool water and seek attention. It is not known to be fatal if swallowed. Do not induce vomiting; contact your local poison control center. How do I use the Auto Starter to power my cell phone or laptop?
Cell phones and laptops are highly sensitive devices. Power It, Inc. recommends using only the adapters suggested or sold by the cell phone or laptop manufacturer. Cell phones can be run for days on standby and up to 100 hours of talk time. Laptops, depending on make; model; and power consumption can be run for an hour or more.

Will the Auto Starter start my car if I leave the headlights on over night?
This is unlikely. The Auto Starter is designed for emergencies away from home. The majority of motorists leave their headlights on while shopping, at a ball game, movies, dinner, etc. In these cases the average time the headlights are on is 2 to 4 hours. Although, we have had success stories where motorists have left their headlights on for 8 to 12 hours this is not the norm. There are many contributing factors that determine an auto battery’s life and recoverability, many auto battery manufacturers do not guarantee their batteries will recover if drained more than 5 to 6 hours.
